Summer is flying by and before you know it the kids will be settling back into the classroom. One of the most important purchases you will make for them is a new back pack. Not only does it have to be the coolest one out there it needs to be durable. It’s not uncommon for those packs to feel like they weight more than your child. Children should not carry more than 15% of their body weight. The weight of these back packs can cause serious back injury so keep a watchful eye on your child’s pack. Look for a pack with strong padded straps the are adjustable, including a waist strap for added support. When you are shopping for a new back pack keep it light but heavy duty or you will be replacing it before the end of the year.
The back pack is just the begining, there are shoes, clothes and all those notebooks, pens and pencils. If money’s tight put yourself and the kids on a budget and stick to it. In fact take inventory of all you already have, going through all the closets and drawers may yeild many things from last year are still in good shape like the scissors, geometry sets and calculotors. Save money by shopping with a friend and splitting bulk packages of anything from socks, tee shirts to pens and notebooks. With a good plan this shopping trip doesn’t have to be overwhelming, it might even be fun. Get the kids envolved and make one big day of it.
Some day you’ll look back and miss that back to school shopping day.
